Welcome to Grimwade House, Melbourne Grammar’s coeducational primary school in Caulfield, dedicated exclusively to the needs of young learners.

We focus on creating an educational environment that not only prepares children for the future but also celebrates the joy of childhood today. Here, boys and girls from Prep to Year 6 learn together in a vibrant and inspiring setting tailored to the unique developmental needs of young learners.

We believe that childhood is precious and immensely important - a time of wonder, innocence, imagination, creativity and curiosity. Childhood is not something to be skipped over in a rush to adolescence and adulthood. A happy, positive and strong learning experience in childhood helps set the essential academic, social, physical and emotional foundations for the life that is to follow. This is why each child’s curiosity, joy and potential are at the heart of everything we do.

Celebrating growth and achievement

One of the many factors that sets Grimwade House apart is our understanding that learning is multidimensional. We know that every child develops and learns at different rates in different areas. We carefully consider, plan for and provide what each individual child needs each day.

Our expert teachers understand how to observe, assess and encourage each student, engaging personalised learning strategies to inspire and challenge them to reach new levels of achievement. And by recognising and rewarding both effort and the achievement of personal bests, we build an intrinsic motivation to learn and do well that benefits students throughout their lives.

A warm, welcoming and inclusive community

At Grimwade House, we believe that strong, positive and respectful relationships between students and teachers are the cornerstone of our success. Our passionate, talented, and dedicated staff are committed to creating an inclusive culture that values excellence.

Alongside developing a deep understanding of each child’s interests, motivations and abilities, teachers create an atmosphere of trust and positivity enabling students to step outside their comfort zone and face new challenges with confidence and a sense of purpose.

We encourage active participation in School activities from families. We celebrate the unique contributions of each member of our School community, and actively foster a sense of belonging and community spirit.

Our campus is devoted to young learners

Located on three hectares of leafy grounds, Grimwade House is a rare example of an independent primary school that offers outstanding learning environments designed and built specifically to meet the needs of young children. From our classrooms to our science labs, art studios, performing arts venues, pool and sports grounds, playgrounds and educational gardens, we learn in spaces that support children as they grow, and which allow for flexible, responsive teaching methods.
In addition, we have broader access to the people, resources and learning opportunities only a school like Melbourne Grammar can provide.

What does your child need today? library

Our curriculum may vary from year to year to reflect the needs of our students but, whatever the program or activity, we ensure it aligns with our overall philosophy.

The What does your child need today? library presents our views on contemporary educational issues and best practice, providing insights into our philosophy and approach through a series of explorations.

A student perspective

“When I was at my most impressionable, as primary school kids are at that age, this is what rubbed off on me – the idea of healthy ambition, positive achievement, and … I hope I’ve taken with me the warmth and safety I felt at Grimwade and continued to grow. It comes somewhat from being taken seriously.

…In this polarised world, what we see and are taught in our growing years, especially at primary school, is … crucial. We can have views affirmed, stances hammered into us, or we can be not dictated to but equipped with. This I think is another strength of Grimwade.

We left with the beginnings of critical thinking capabilities, so, when presented with political or social points of view we were armed not with biases [teachers] gave us but with the rationality and clear-mindedness which [teachers] instilled … and I am very thankful for that.â€
