We focus on enjoyment, teamwork and friendship in our Sport programme, while giving students the chance to excel. Our sporting culture is defined by a spirit of collaboration rather than competitiveness, with students encouraging others to succeed and celebrating their classmates’ achievements.
Competitive sport begins in Year 3 with inter-House competitions which continue through to Year 12. Inter-school competition commences at Year 5 and also occurs through to Year 12.
Celebrating achievement and teamwork
Weekly training, inter-House competition and inter-school matches are part of every older student’s experience at Melbourne Grammar. This regular participation develops students’ capacity for teamwork and resilience, and also provides new challenges for our most enthusiastic sportspeople.
Sport for each season
Students can choose from a wide variety of seasonal sports to match their skills and interests, depending on their year level. These may include athletics, badminton, cricket, diving, football, rowing, sailing, swimming, tennis, volleyball and water polo alongside many more options across our campuses.
We participate in the Associated Public Schools of Victoria (APS) Sport programme, together with another 10 independent schools, for many of our activities.
Sports fixtures and parent support
Parents can access sporting fixtures and results for inter-school competitions through the School’s dedicated intranet. Many sporting teams also have welcoming parent groups that provide support at training, organise uniforms and manage sporting related activities.
International and interstate sporting tours occur at Wadhurst and Senior School.
All talent and skill levels
We recognise that some Melbourne Grammar students are, or have the capability to become, elite sportspeople. We assist them to pursue their goals under the supervision of expert coaches, using exceptional facilities, with access to national and international competition.
