Orchestral tours, theatrical productions and music events are all part of the Melbourne Grammar School calendar. Students develop both onstage and backstage skills in our performing arts program, making use of nearby venues such as the Malthouse Theatre along with our extensive on-campus spaces.

Grimwade House

Along with a dedicated rehearsal room for School music ensembles, facilities for our Prep to Year 6 students include:

  • Netley Music School where students can take their on-campus music lessons, or rehearse concert pieces with their ensemble colleagues.
  • Alfred Felton Hall which provides a full theatre fit-out for plays, assemblies and presentations.
  • An outdoor stage for children to use for performance as part of imaginative play.

Wadhurst

Our Wadhurst campus offer purpose-built spaces for drama studies along with:

  • An amphitheatre-style space at Wadhurst where all Year 7 and 8 students regularly gather.
  • The Wadhurst Music School houses instrumental tutorial rooms, a music classroom, a rehearsal room, and a percussion room.
  • Wadhurst Hall – an indoor hall for assemblies and performances.
  • Wadhurst Deck - a large central area which is transformed into a stage for various concerts throughout the year

Senior School

Facilities and performance spaces for our Year 9 to 12 students include drama rooms along with:

  • Shelmerdine Music Studio – an underground rehearsal and teaching space that offers a soundproof studio and theatres for recitals and lunchtime performances.
  • Myer Music School, used for private tuition for a wide range of instruments.
  • The Old Melburnians War Memorial Hall – a space where the Senior School can gather for remembrances, assemblies, concerts, and celebrations. With a full theatre fit-out and a descending orchestra pit connecting to the Shelmerdine Music Studio, Mem Hall (as it is affectionately known) also hosts many theatrical productions each year.
  • The Senior School bluestone quadrangle, which has been transformed into a unique indoor-outdoor performance space for the annual Quad play across many decades.
