The Old Melburnians Society is independent and self-governing public company limited by guarantee.
The Old Melburnians Council is the Board of the Old Melburnians Society.
The Old Melburnians Council hold nine formal meetings each year and conducts its Annual General Meeting each November. The Old Melburnians Society has a constitution, by-laws, and a series of policies which cover issues such as conduct, finance and investment. Our executive committee, elected annually, comprises the President, up to two Vice-Presidents, an Honorary Secretary and an Honorary Treasurer.
The Council is underpinned by Subcommittees with specific portfolio responsibilities. These are: Finance and Investments, Clubs and Societies, Old Melburnian Women, Special Events, Annual Dinner, Communications and Database, Careers and Growth, Branches, and Fellowship and Community. Each of these Subcommittees is chaired by a member of the Council. Each member of Council is required to serve on at least one committee and Chair another. Any Life Member may serve on a committee and several who are not members of the Council do.
Council members are elected at the Annual General Meeting for a term of three years. Importantly, members cannot be re-elected if they have been part of the Council for over ten years at the time of the Annual General Meeting. This is one of the measures that is used to ensure the Council remains diverse and actively engaged.
Old Melburnians interested in becoming actively involved with the Council, can email [email protected] to express interest and organise to speak to a member of Council.
