Boarding at Melbourne Grammar School is about fun and friendship as well as academic success. We make sure our boarders have plenty of ways to relax and enjoy their free time within their boarding houses, along with opportunities to spend time with friends away from campus.
We organise a regular program of activities which is made available to parents. Boys find many additional ways to explore all that the city of Melbourne has to offer.
Relaxing at the boarding house
Each of our boarding houses includes a large TV/lounge area along with table tennis and pool tables in our games rooms and courtyards where boys can spend time playing games and talking with friends.
Regular activities
Alongside their sporting, performance or other School-based commitments, boarders participate in a wide range of planned social activities including House dinners, barbecues, chapel services and plays. They also enjoy activities which include students from Melbourne Girls Grammar School and other neighbouring boarding schools.
Students can also make use of the School’s wide range of sporting facilities and gym, as well as the nearby Tan running track and Botanic Gardens.
Time away
With approval from their parent or Local Support Person, students are welcome to take part in day trips to popular attractions around Melbourne and Victoria including the Melbourne Cricket Ground, AAMI Park and other sporting venues.
Other weekend and overnight activities include trips to the beach, surfing, ice-skating, skiing and visits to the theatre.
Boarders are also welcome to organise sleepovers with school friends who are day students and to stay at day students’ homes on weekends.
What we do in free-time on the weekend varies a lot. In summer, we often head over to St Kilda beach. It’s just a quick tram ride away. Lots of boys walk over to the MCG for a footy match, or AAMI Park for rugby. I like heading into the city with my mates from School.
