Update No. 2 (February 2017) Metro Tunnel Project | Melbourne Grammar School

Update No. 2 (February 2017) Metro Tunnel Project

The Melbourne Metro Rail Project (MMRP) includes the construction of an underground rail station – Domain – on St Kilda Road outside Melbourne Grammar School. The station will include a tram ‘super stop’ above it.

Preparatory work is currently underway in areas around the School, including sections of Domain Road and St Kilda Road.  As in all matters, the School considers the safety of students and staff to be of the highest importance.  We ask all individuals to take particular care when moving around the work areas near the School.

At this stage, we are advised that the following changes are likely to occur during the first part of this year:

  • St Kilda Road will reduce to one lane in each direction.  Trams will continue to travel along St Kilda Road.
  • Domain Road will be closed to through traffic in both directions from Dallas Brooks Drive to St Kilda Road.  There will be provision for student drop-off outside the Senior School on Domain Road.
  • The no 8 tram will be re-routed from Domain Road to Toorak Road West and (turn right) onto St Kilda Road.

Please be assured that the School continues to maintain close contact with the Melbourne Metro Rail Authority to assess and minimise the impact of Project activities on the School.

We are committed to providing community members with regular updates about the project and the School’s plans for dealing with issues arising.
