Indigenous Students

You are here

The Indigenous Programme at Melbourne Grammar School sprang from modest but purposeful beginnings almost ten years ago, and we are proud to offer dedicated places for Indigenous students from Year 7 to Year 12.

Young men from Indigenous communities around Victoria and interstate are welcomed into a caring and supportive environment that helps them fulfil their academic potential and grow into confident, caring and independent adults. Our Indigenous students join a vibrant boarding community where they are encouraged to make the most of every opportunity the School has to offer. With support from the Indigenous Programme Manager, students are encouraged to maintain strong cultural connections and to stay connected with their families.

The School currently offers ten dedicated bursaries for Indigenous students. The bursaries cover a large portion of the cost of tuition and boarding at the School.

Entry Points

Bursaries for Indigenous students are available from Year 7 to Year 12. The main intakes are at Year 7 (Wadhurst) and Year 9 (Senior School) but, depending on current enrolments, opportunities may be available at other year levels.

Entry process

To apply for entry, families should download an application form, complete it and return it to the Admissions Department along with your son’s latest school reports.

Shortlisted applicants will be contacted by Phil O’Connor, the School’s Indigenous Programme Manager, to discuss their application. Students will be invited to attend an entrance test at the School and may also be invited to meet with the Headmaster.

Student orientation

Helping our Indigenous students settle in to life at Melbourne Grammar School is an important part of their educational journey. A comprehensive programme of orientation activities takes place early each year.
