The Chapel itself is a memorial to the School’s first Headmaster, Dr Edward Bromby (1809–1889, Headmaster 1858–1875) and its third Headmaster, Alexander Pyne (1850–1885, Headmaster 1883–1884).
On 29 June 1892 – the Feast Day of St Peter – the wife of the Governor of Victoria, the Countess of Hopetoun, laid the Chapel’s foundation stone.
The names of the two Headmasters in whose memory it stands are solemnly recorded in Latin.
